Balmoral House is a beautifully restrained house that celebrates a simple palette of materials and the structural elements of design. It is modest in its appearance responding to its leafy aspect and diverse streetscape whilst its orientation cleverly captures views where possible drawing them inside. It truly reflects the individuals who own it; their personalities, lifestyle and aesthetic. Balmoral House is a strikingly contemporary house that demonstrates how an architect designed home can be both life changing for the owners as well as positively contributing to the wider neighbourhood with its presence.

I have just completed the build on a residential project with Chrofi. Our family home in Balmoral. The minimalist design is more than I could have hoped for. Chrofi have created a simple yet sophisticated home that is uncomplicated and able to stand alone without needing unnecessary ornamentation. I entrusted Chrofi with free design scope to present the best possible solution for the difficult site without any limitations (apart from the budget). And I am so glad, as the house is full of light and space. They designed a house that is settled into the landscape in a way that other architects had not considered. And it's precisely that careful consideration that allows the house to work so well. It's a house that slowly unfolds itself to you. It really does feel like a work of art, it has a meditative quality. It's intimate, but with a sense of space. It's restrained, but detailed and finished to a very high standard. As you move through the house you are immersed in a sense of calm. And that calm comes from the well designed spaces using constrained and complementary materials. It's the perfect retreat away from the activity at the beach below.
